[Kari was sulking.]

[Or at least, that's certainly what it was, even if she wouldn't admit it to herself. She's been out of sorts since Beardface went home -- the first time someone "close" to her has left Luceti, after over a year of being here. It felt strange, and she wasn't really sure what to do about it. Should she be sad? Angry that he went home while she's still stuck here? Or should she just get over it because that's the nature of this place? She wanted to go home. She could feel it so strongly in every part of her body. And yet no matter how many times she tried, the magic to take her back to her home world just wouldn't work.]

[On the table in her apartment, the notes left to her by the spirit who possessed her body for nearly a week still sat there, staring at her. A voice in the back of her head that she wasn't entirely sure was hers silently urged her to pick them up. She wanted-- no, she needed to be stronger. And if she had to risk a deal with the devil to do it, so be it.]

[Of course, then she finally picks up the notes and realizes they're written in code.]

Hello, Lucetizens! Okay, now that I've heard it myself, that's actually kinda terrible... [/ahem]

So, I know that school thing does some kind of class about magic, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there with experience in teaching the more serious stuff. You know, things not related to the filial magic here. Ideally someone with experience dealing with magic that might not come from their own world... but I'm not being terribly picky here.

Of course, I'm not just expecting someone to offer out of the goodness of their own heart or anything. But, I mean, I don't think I have all that much to offer myself, but I'm sure we can figure something out!

[Action - Hoshikyo/Kari]
[Sometime after her journal entry, she reverts back to Kari and goes to the library to get some studying in. She'll need if she's going to figure out exactly what these notes say. Thankfully, it's not entirely code, but the language is pretty heavily ancient. Perhaps if it were written in a nicer hand, it could be picked up by either Luceti's or her own auto-translation power... but for now, it gave her something to do. She's got quite a few stacks of books around her, and no less than 4 open at once. Though every so often, she leans back in her chair with a sigh of frustration. That spirit is a goddamn troll.]

[When she gets too frustrated, she heads over to the battledome as Hoshikyo for some stress-relief. It's been a little while since she's trained proper, so she's a bit rusty -- all the more reason to practice. She'll be focused more on form for her sword fighting, though she may attempt a few tries at magic while she's there.]

Well then, that'll be our next mission! We have to crack that code to learn the information it contains! If someone bothers to encode something in the first place it has to be interesting, right? Sure it could be a total nerd thing, but if it's magic, it's probably some sort of secret of the arcane.

Well, no, it isn't. [She tugs on the string.]

I know later in life I'm supposed to get an enchanted bow from my powers, because when Queen Serenity was here she commented on it, but...this one is just a regular one that I've enchanted with other magic.

Ah, right, the Flame Sniper... I guess it would be kind of hard to power up while you're still stuck here, huh. That's the same roadblock I've been hitting.

[Aaand she may have said a little too much right there. She's gotten so comfortable with knowing Sailor Mars in person now that it's gotten all too easy to forget that she might know more about her than she realizes. Sailor Moon is a classic series back home, after all.]

You mean it, Chief!? [There are sparkles in her eyes. Sparkles.]

Yeah, they've totally got some secrets in them! I mean, they were written by a super old magical spirit, after all. [Casually glossing over that...] I'm lucky that the language is some kind of Japanese, and I can kinda-sorta parse out some of the more simple parts, but the actual code itself is what makes it tough!

Yes. Exactly that. But...

[She pauses, frowning.]

How do you know about that? Honestly, how do you know about me at all?

Oh, really?! Do you think it might even be some proto-Japanese mixed in with the Ainu language?!

I think Ainu might be a bit of a stretch, but there's definitely a lot of Chinese character using Japanese readings! You know, like old kanji that we don't really use anymore? There's readings for some of the characters to give clues, but it's been taking a lot of looking through old books to find the right meanings for stuff.

[The internet would make this a much easier job, seriously.]

Oh, that's less interesting.

[ FROWN. But... ] I guess that's still something we can work with, probably even easier.

You've stopped fighting? [There's a hint of concern in his voice. He sure hopes they aren't arguing anymore.]

I'm so sorry. [Hoshikyo's story reminds Shu of his relationship with Gai. They did argue from time to time, but at the end of the day they were friends.]

What do you mean by pushy jerk? Did she say rude things and annoy you?

It's possible! I mean, it's not totally unlikely for so many similar worlds to be the source of the people brought to this world, if you consider it might be pulling people in from a certain part of the multiverse. And if they already share things like words for things and having humans, it's not that much of a stretch to say they might share cultural bits as well.

Hey, it's still plenty interesting! Sorta. [If you like reading weird books as much as Kari does, at least.] But I think I'd rather it be easier. The fun stuff will be once we can start actually figuring out how to use the spells written there!

[There's a series of faces here. First a slight look of shock as she realizes what she's said, then a small unsure frown as she tries (and fails) to remember what she told Rei back when she first recognized Sailor Mars, and finally her crossing her arms and frowning down at the ground.]

[She's always believed it wasn't a good idea to tell people too much about how the multiverse weaves together... but Luceti itself didn't exactly follow the rules, either. It seemed pretty clear that there was some sort of bigger picture behind everyone being trapped in this place. Proof that even more worlds have become unstable, perhaps?]

[Regardless, it could be of benefit to have more people who know about this stuff. And if it was someone who already trusted her, that might make the process of explaining things a little easier. It was pretty unbelievable, after all, to explain how you grew up watching the life of someone from an entirely different world in a cartoon on TV.]

...it's complicated. Like, "we should find somewhere else to talk about this" complicated. I mean, unless you want the abridged version, but that would probably just result in more questions than answers.

Oh, totally rude! [Ranting about someone she doesn't like -- a favorite topic of hers.]

She did all kinds of annoying things around the city, causing trouble with everyone she could to try and lure me out. I mean, I don't think she ever wanted to hurt anyone, but she knew I would never let anyone get hurt, so I had to play the hero in public way more than I ever wanted to. She even got me arrested once! It was terrible! I had to go and beg my old sword master break those handcuffs off for me -- which was totally embarrassing!

[DEEP BREATH because that was all said in one go. Clearly there are some unresolved issues there. She was using the term "friendship" rather loosely, after all.]

Yeah, that's true, at least. It should be pretty neat.

Out of curiosity, have you experience any holidays or cultural things from other worlds? Or are there any holidays that have formed in Luceti?

Then let's go somewhere more private. This sounds important.

[Because believe her, she's seen and experienced some serious shit.]

[She nods, already heading towards the battledome exit while still turned and facing Rei.]

How about the shrine? Think we'd be able to get some privacy there?

Of course. Come here.

[She reaches out a hand to Hoshikyo, and with a whispered word they're both standing under the shrine's gate. Snow flurries up as they do but Rei, now back to normal, is already marching towards the entrance of the main building.]

The fire's warm and everything. I just don't want to walk through all that again.

Oh, I've seen plenty of stuff from other worlds! I mean, I wouldn't be much of a world traveler if I didn't, right? But I don't know anything about any holidays that formed here. But I guess for people who come from worlds without them, you could say it's like they were formed here? They have their own unique traditions and whatever when it comes to them, I mean. Like, how they aren't too fond of Valentine's Day here.

[You'd think the world traveler would be used to things like sudden teleporting, but she's not. Her own teleportation powers don't work here, after all. So the sudden change in scenery makes her jump a bit.]

...okay, you've gotta teach me that trick sometime.

[And then she follows in, though she keeps herself as Hoshikyo for now -- she did just finish training after all, and she's not too interested in explaining all this while nursing a few battle wounds.]

[Even outside of Luceti, Ginia's not fond of Valentine's Day. Here, with the experiments? No surprise people without the holiday in their world wouldn't like it here.]

That makes sense. Moving away from holidays and experiments, what do you think about this place? Being stuck in one place is probably a big change after being able to travel through worlds.

[Rei just smiles and dips her head.]

Helios would be better at it than me. I learned it from him.

[She enters and waves a hand, the flames that were burning low kindling to life with renewed vigor. There are some advantages to being a reincarnated elemental demigod from another planet, after all. If you can't show off a bit, why have the powers at all.]

Have a seat, and please, start the explaining. I can make some tea, since I am guessing you might be a little tired?

[Up until now, most of Kari's answers have been relatively quick and upbeat. That one... she's notably a bit more subdued, and has to think on it for a second.]

...yeah. It's a big change. I mean, I probably got used to the wackiness faster than most people, but. Not being able to go home? That took some getting used to.

Tea would be nice. [She nods and takes a seat, letting out a soft huff. Where should she even begin...?]

Okay. So refresh me a little on what you know about other worlds. Or, like, whether you knew about them existing before Luceti at all. It'll give me an idea of where I should start.
